Samy Sabani

Samy Sabani is a nonrepresentational painter based in southwestern Ontario. His work delves into the intersection between digital and traditional mediums. Self-taught in digital art, Sabani made the transition to oil painting through his studies in Visual and Digital Art at Humber College. Drawing inspiration from his studies, Sabani set out to uncover his artistic identity through experimentation with various techniques and materials. He ultimately found a balance in his series of paintings known as “Spliced Swirls”, which highlights his distinct technique of mimicking digital tools such as masking and gradient fills through his process of using oil paint and painter’s tape. The mesmerizing paintings of swirls explore the manipulation of colour, line, and value. This invites the viewer to reflect on the role of technology in art and the importance of preserving human creativity.
